How to Start Windows Media Player 11 in the Now Playing Tab

October 27th, 2007 . by Tommy

Right click on the shortcut for Windows Media Player 11 and click on ’Properties’. In the ‘Target’ field, after the ” ends, type ‘/Task NowPlaying’ (without the single quotes).

Example: If the shortcut looks like ["C:Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Prefetch:1] change it to ["C:Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Task NowPlaying].

How to set the default start page of Windows Media Player 11 to the Now Playing TabPlayer 11

    Hi,

Thank you for this tip on opening WMP usefully.

Now, can you tell me how to do this directly in Registry? That way I know what’s going on under the hood, Thanks so much !

    Hi!

    Thanks for commenting.

I have also looked for a way to enable this in registry directly, but without success.

For reference, here’s a few other commands like NowPlaying:

    /Task MediaGuide
    /Task CDAudio
    /Task CDWrite
    /Task Library
    /Task SkinViewer
    /Task PortableDevice

Thanks a $1M for the quick response !!

& when I find the Registry answer,
I’ll return here to share it :D

or, when I get off my laziness & use one of the Registry change programs to find out exactly where that parameter is recording itself to Registry!

hmmm, this would be an excellent project to practice in a Virtual Machine …..

    I use HotKeys Plus,
& was able to add the ” /Task NowPlaying ”
    parameter in the parameter field,
so when I hit my HotKey combo,
WMP opens like I want it to !

(even tho’ I prefer the new Home Theatre edition of Media Player Classic, that contains current codecs for .flv, .swf, mpeg4, etc.)

I looked for it today but couldn’t find the registry change myself (using procmon).

Hope you have better luck :)
