What is extremely small, but has very long range?

To be released in Japan this month, this new USB Bluetooth stick from Princeton combines an impressive range of ~100 meters with miniature size, barely sticking out of the USB port when plugged in.

While we have seen small USB Bluetooth adaptors before, this combination of features was unheard of until now, with the norm being a maximum range of about 8 to 10 meters, or around 30 feet if you don’t speak metric.

Add and Remove Elements with JavaScript / ECMAScript

Not long ago, Dustin Diaz posted an updated version of his short and to the point guide on creating and removing HTML / XHTML elements dynamically using JavaScript / ECMAScript. His original guide from 2005 was very popular, but perhaps getting a little outdated …

So, if you’re like me and you’re into this Web 2.0 stuff, it could certainly become a handy quick reference for the future.

I recommend you check out his guide “Add and Remove Elements with JavaScript (reprise)”.

NVIDIA = HAXX

Crysis looks badder - in a bad way

NVIDIAs new Crysis-optimized beta drivers 169.01 and 169.04 were picked apart over at Elite Bastards, who could reveal shocking results. Apparently these drivers force removal of certain water/shadow effects, increasing performance at the expense of visual quality.

One can easily deduct that NVIDIA has made this move in order to better benchmarking results for their 8xxx line of graphics cards, trying to make them stand out more vs their AMD/ATI opponents. Elite Bastards conclude that this is not an issue in the official 163.69 drivers, and adds that the difference in performance between the old and new drivers is 7 %.

Users of the new drivers who prefer not to rollback can easily circumvent this game-specific “optimization” by renaming the “crysis.exe” file to “nvidiacheats.exe”.

How To: Make Web Pages Load Quicker In Firefox

There’s a lot of different tricks and tools that are supposed to improve website loading times in Firefox, but whether they really make a difference or not is often hard to tell.

There are exceptions however, so follow the directions below to make your pages display faster in Firefox as they are loading:

  1. In the address bar (where you type in website addresses), type “about:config” and hit Enter to access the hidden settings menu in Firefox.
  2. In the “Filter:” field, type “network.prefetch”.
  3. Right click the line that says “network.prefecth-next” and click “Toggle”.
